Founded by Theo Pauls and Tony Walde in 1987, what started as Okanagan Propane & Automotive has grown into one of Kelowna's most trusted full-service repair facilities. Still family-owned, still honest.

Three decades of trusted service
Founded as Okanagan Propane & Automotive
Theo Pauls, frustrated with deceptive practices he witnessed working as a technician in Kamloops, partnered with Tony Walde to build an honest shop. Their goal: a place where people feel comfortable knowing they are in good hands. They opened Okanagan Propane & Automotive in Kelowna, specializing in propane vehicle conversions alongside general repair.
Full-Service Expansion
Added comprehensive auto repair capabilities and European vehicle specialization. The shop earned a reputation for straight talk and fair pricing that brought customers back year after year.
Asian Import Expertise
Grew the team with Asian vehicle specialists as Kelowna's import market expanded. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai — the shop could now handle virtually any make on the road.
Tony Walde Departs
Co-founder Tony Walde left the industry as propane system installation became increasingly complex and expensive. Theo and Shelley Pauls continued running the business with the same founding values.
Rebranded to Okapro Automotive
With the shift toward general automotive repair for all makes and models, the company was renamed from Okanagan Propane & Automotive to Okapro Automotive Inc., reflecting the broader scope of services.
Serving the Next Generation
Still owned and operated by Theo and Shelley Pauls, with Red Seal certified technicians including Bob Stutters — the only licensed LNG installer in the valley — and Phil Neufeld, who brings welding expertise alongside his Red Seal certification. The same values, a bigger team, and the tools to work on anything that rolls in.

Theo Pauls owns and operates the shop with Shelley Pauls. Bob Stutters is a Red Seal certified technician and the only licensed LNG installer in the valley. Phil Neufeld holds his Red Seal certification and brings welding expertise to the team. Together they cover European, Asian, and North American vehicles.
Every job is backed by a 12-month / 20,000 km warranty. We use quality parts sourced from multiple suppliers and every technician stays current with ongoing training. When you bring your vehicle to Okapro, you're in the hands of people who genuinely care about doing the job right.
